Lehman Brothers - Strengths and weaknesses?
How good is it?
What are the strength and weaknesses as compared to its peers such as GS, MS, ML and such?
Anyone who worked at Lehman could share some experience? (for intern/entry level)
Thank!

Career Resources
Strengths: Bulge bracket, strong in certain groups - consumer, natural resources, communications, generally well regarded pure-play i bank.
Weakness: It's strong in the US but weak elsewhere (Europe and Asia)
Below GS/MS but on the same field as ML/JPM
Yeah, I just got accepted into their Sophomore Rotational Program, so i'm also kinda curious on what the verdict is on them as well. Any full time/ former internship experiences?
after sophomore year for sure. It will really help you in landing interviews with Lehman obviously for next year, but also other BBs as well.
not in the same leage as GS, ML or JPM...but def v coveted!
Don't know what you are talking about, definitely in the same league as ML and JPM.
really think its below JPM?
I'm with Leh and--even though it sounds cheesy and bs--the culture is what made me accept my offer and it hasn't let me down. Exit opps are good--my analyst class got placed well. The only negative is we're a little cheap with the perks.
Most Lehman bankers I've met are laid back and fairly intelligent. However, I've also met some really dorky people who are smart, but have no social skills. BTW, after GS/MS, all banks are similar and becomes group specific. Don't let anyone tell you that Lehman is below JPM/ML/ or Citi. Most of the people I've met that work at JPM are cooler, but not an excuse for choosing them over the former.
lb banker- would you mind elaborating on what specifically drew you to the culture?
Everyone I met with anyways came off as very-laid back and respectful of the junior level guys. And it played out that way for the past few years so maybe I just got lucky. but kids in my analyst class all like their groups and the people they work for (except one kid in healthcare who wants to kill himself, so avoid that group)
To lb banker- The people I meet at Leh were a big factor in me choosing to accept with them as well. They were all really friendly, and it seemed as if the firm had a culture that encourages longer term careers. I also had offers from GS and JPM.
So what would you guys say the stronger groups at Leh are?
well good, i like how you guys think. the ppl you work with are the most imporant thing
Even in London, Lehman has the rep of having cool people. And the people I know from Lehman are definitely pretty down to earth especially compared to alot of the other BB's.
I have also heard the same thing about the perks being a little worse than other banks (for example, less money for food at night), but overall people at Lehman seem to be pretty happy there.
I know a lot of bankers who can't say the same.
how is lehman's media group?
It will be interesting to see how the group fares, they used to have one of the best media groups on the street, but their star media banker left about a month ago.
sounds like the main thing about lehman is the people are just really cool and laid back?
Young was a telecoms banker primarily.
From my interviewing experiences, I can say that I love Lehman. Anyone know what the offer rate is for Lehman's summer interns?
something like 85%. Lehman is one of most generous firms in giving out offers at end of summer. It's just more difficult to land a gig there vs. other firms.
If these bastards only knew...
HAHAHA good job reviving an ancient posting. I wonder what they are all doing now since that was an extremely bad time to get into banking.
I think their biggest weakness is in their structured products group. I know in the past they’ve had some immense success on that side but recently it’s placed some stress on their books.
I heard their securitization and risk teams have good hours and comp
Real talk though, how was Lehman viewed in the years leading up to the crash? What was their culture like? Same Qs for Bear Sterns too.
Who else thought this was a shitpost when you saw this on the front page
