London Still Viable After Brexit? (International Student)

Currently in high school in a Chinese city.

I'm looking to get into FO finance. What are your thoughts on UK vs US, especially after Brexit? I'd be an international student for both, and the draw of the UK for me is it's cheaper (roughly by half), and there isn't the H1B visa lottery.

Or is the US still worth the cost because of Brexit? What is the job market like now for finance in the UK? Thoughts on post-Brexit? I'd graduate '22/'23

P.S. - if in the UK - Cambridge Economics vs. Oxford E&M vs LSE Finance vs LSE Acc. & Fin vs LSE Econ vs UCL Stats, Econ & Fin.?

EDIT: added LSE Econ

Background: I grew up in UK, went to one of the universities you mentioned above and work in London in Big Four.

Front office is broad, but London finance recruiting is still alive and well. I've had no problem getting interviews etc. from a less than target professional experience set and if you play your cards rights (good grades and internships) you'll be in a stronger position than me.

Of course, I can't speak for 3-4 years from now, but I can assure you that London will remain very important for FO finance. The entrenchment of the ecosystem of private capital, public markets and strong finance / consulting talent in London will be too sticky to displace fully by other locations and should still provide jobs.

However, I would say that your position as a Chinese immigrant might be treated differently in 3-4 years than it is today (unfortunately, I should add) from a legal and social POV, depending on how public sentiment / median voter politics in the UK goes (something I'd be wary of sadly) so might not be more straight forward from a visa point of view.

I'd add that all of those institutions are great and if there are jobs going in London you'll have a good shot barring visa issues. But if not, you could easily use those names to get you a job elsewhere, since I can vouch those names will open doors around the world. They are all extremely hard to get into, so work hard on that personal statement. Also, why don't you have Econ at LSE on there? That would make even more sense for recruiting and would help make your econ-based personal statement more applicable to your applications.

Finally on ranking them, I'll give you three rankings: 1. Prestige rankings (ooo factor): Cam Econ > Oxo E&M > LSE any > UCL 2. Best for landing a city job: LSE (blend of prestige and proximity) > Cam > Oxo > UCL - but all of them are v. good and will get you there if motivated 3. Genuine difficulty of degree / studies (and stress therein) based upon extensive experience of this set of universities: Oxbridge > London's. Social life better at Oxbridge too
