Long term goal > M&A, Two Job Options

Hi guys and gals, I'm looking for some advice.

I've got two offers: pensions consultant and market risk. Given my long term goal of M&A what should I take?

Pros: Market Risk:

Team is within a stable P&L environment. Opportunity to potentially lateral internally to M&A

Pros Pensions Consultant:

FO not MO, Pay including bonus is more than 50% higher Client facing / presenting to CFOs etc.

Cons: Very specialized (could apply to market risk also to be fair).

Location for both is New York / London

Market risk is quite broad. What would you be doing exactly?

I'm not sure it will necessarily get you to lateral into M&A where most of what you do as a junior is spreading comps, searching potential buyers/sellers and staring at excel all day long but if you think there are some similarities and you want to do M&A then go for it

pensions consultant sounds indeed like it would be very niche and consultant unless you want to become an FI expert
