Macquarie MIRA, which is an infrastructure PE group AFAIK...anyone know what the standards are to get in in Australia? Is it on par with Investment Banking? Harder? Easier (somehow)?
It seems way better than investment banking, albeit more focused on infrastructure...yet not a lot of people AFAIK know about it. Plus i'm guessing fewer positions overall.
Any perspectives?

Not sure why you are concerned about whether it is harder or easier to get in compared to investment banking. Basically their investment banking now is supposed to be mainly focused on infrastructure now as well so it depends on whether you prefer doing capital raising vs investing.
In Australia, Macquarie IB seems to be the role everyone goes for....relatively fewer people go for MIRA. Makes no sense IMO. So the standards must be different...
All Macquarie IB peeps move to Macquarie fund (MIRA) when they get the chance. Better hours, better pay, you are just up the food chain.

Are you Australia based? Macquarie doesn't like putting people from the US into their Australian offices straight from college.
Dealflow is weak in Australia and not as many assets under managements to look after. London and NY are better training grounds for juniors
Summer Internships exist for Macquarie MIRA which lead to full-time in Australia. That's the only way 99% of the time for undergrads.
There's only 1 position open but the quality of people who get offers appears lower than Macquarie Capital. I'm in a position where i know the quality of people who gets in...which i still don't get. What @InfraFund says is correct - it is up the food chain, but hey.
Summer internships are not intense within MIRA so hard to compare... Analyst life is much more intense than internship life. There are not as many crap tasks to hand out to interns in a fund and the training is not formal or organised.

What's the Visa situation like?
I've been thinking about doing the same thing after completing my MSc next year.
From looking at the bios of people in the top firms (MBB, top BB, prop trading firms), it seems as though a lot of people come from the EU. Not sure if the visa process is easier or something, but I've seen a ton of Oxbridge grads and some LSE people.
I'd love to hear input from someone who knows a bit more about the logistics

Visa process is tough, you have the greatest chance by moving internally. This is what most people do.
