Manager being Passive Aggressive. 1-1 gone bad!!

Interesting conversation with my manager #PassiveAggressive

I had a 1:1 with my manager and he asked me what resources I am using to learn and build on my skills. He seemed pretty friendly and we just talked about a meme, so I thought this was going to be casual.

(Not so Seriously) , I told him that I have been using WSO to learn about the industry and Blind for insider news about our company. To my bad I quoted a funny incident that I saw on a post.

After the discussion he said " I didn't expect that from you. You should spend more time reading book and listening to podcasts". I told him about it this Monday, and he's not making eye contact with me now.

Turns out there was a company wide meeting (before I joined), that urged employees to not use these anonymous forums. I think that's against right to speech!?

Maybe I shouldn't have been so informal with him. I was just being casual to have a hearty convo, perhaps to make friends with him.

Now, I feel like shit. What should I do?

You should probably grow up. This isn't your boss being passive aggressive - this is you being a dumbass.

Your boss asked how you're advancing yourself and you responded that you waste time on the internet? Come on...

This.

And also never fully trust your boss like this. You can be close, friendly, everything. But they're still your boss, not your friend.
