I would say that you are very competitive for Columbia based on your stats. I have spent the past year researching and speaking with Adcomms and admission consultants as I begin planning my application for 09'. So long as you can concisely articulate why an MBA and why now you should have a good chance at Columbia. I assume you are actively involved in the community and you seem well-rounded and differentiated from most other applicants. Good luck.

Hey I was wondering - with the economy the way it is, I'd rather be a teacher and enjoy working with kids for a bit then getting whatever consulting or banking job I can get...so long as I could still get to business school.
I know top schools love TFA candidates, but what if I just got a job at a prep school for 2-3 years? Would that still work? Particularly if I did a lot of extracurricular work and what not?
yes, any decent teaching role should put you in a good place for b-school admissions...remember that getting into top schools is less about what exact role you had and more about the "story" you can tell. obviously you are going to need to do well on the GMAT, etc.
My only concern would be being able to craft a plausible story of why b-school after 2-3 years of teaching. Doesnt sound very compelling to me but who knows. TFA is a pretty solid b-school feeder
Well, I'm very interested in education and particularly encouraging higher education for minority and low income students, and am hoping to start up a college consulting firm with recent graduates of all the ivy leagues + stanford/duke/MIT to work with middle school and high school kids to help them get to those schools and to guide them through the school to do well. i'd specialize in minorities and would offer those services for free. i'd also like to run tennis clinics for inner city DC kids, and continue with a charity i started way back in HS that takes homeless children holiday shopping and provides low income students with SAT prep classes through Kaplan and pays for college visits
BUT while thats all good and nice, i still need to get a job...namely consulting or investment management or maybe banking if its thriving in 4 years. so my explanation would be that i wanted to continue to pursue a passion of mine that i started in HS, but then after doing that for a bit i'd want to enter the working world
