Do banks ever pay for an MBA/Masters of any kind? Do they even let you go get a masters without parting ways?

I doubt it. More banks are allowing A2A promos so no need for an MBA. But if you are diversity, some banks have fellowships so 2nd year tuition is paid for.

I know a handful of contacts who have had an executive MBA sponsored by major banks in NY. All of these people attended Columbia's program which I believe meets two days a week (Friday / Saturday) and they continued to work FT Monday-Thursday.
Honestly, it sounds like a miserable experience for two years: none of the fun / travel / break from it all that comes with an MBA and instead working 6-7 days a week trying to juggle coursework and work responsibilities. That said, no opportunity cost from lost income due to 2 year break and a free MBA.
Did your colleagues have any advice for someone who is interested in Columbia’s EMBA? How important is the GMAT? Don’t you need like 10 years experience too?

Also, were these recent sponsorships? A lot of BBs now (at least from what I’ve seen) only give you a ridiculously small amount like $5000-7000 to cover your mba.
That’s what I was able to find online as well, but wasn’t sure if that was reality. $5k on a top MBA doesn’t help much..but it’s better than nothing.
Sounds pretty awful. Almost be better if to do an online MBA at a top program. Not sure if it’s as beneficial networking wise, free time it is though.

Have a friend doing it there, just left for their MBA and it's paid for. "Baird Scholars" program or something. Pretty generous.
What school is your friend going to? Is it full time or part time?
I have never heard of banks sponsoring for MBA. I definitely didn't have any classmates that were in that situation, although to think of it, I don't think I can think of anyone who came back to the same bank they were at. Consulting firms on the other hands do sponsor a lot with short payback times (all 2 years in my experience).
Apparently, Capital One pays for your MBA but you have to be there for a few years and agree to stay. Can’t confirm this though.
