MBB decision turnaround time
Hi guys,
I apologize for asking yet again, but I'm spazzing a little over my decision round interviews with MBB. Anyone have a sense of typical turnaround time for immediate hire-type positions with any of the three? I've heard anything from "McK takes a week" to "3 business days for BCG means you're dinged". Thoughts from the pool?
It's been 2 business days for me, so I'm sure I'm being paranoid about not hearing yet, but...
Thanks!
What difference does it make? Your interviews are over, so there's no point in fretting about the outcome. If you get the offer, you get the offer. If you don't, you don't. Worrying about it doesn't help at all.
I appreciate the advice, but let's say that I am fretting about it and I would like to know. Any ideas?
I dunno about immediate hire, but for fall 2010 hires BCG is the fastest (1 day to 1.5 weeks; better candidates usually hear earlier unless they tell you otherwise), McKinsey is about a week to two weeks (unless you're on the waitlist, and they they just don't tell you anything until they've made a decision), and Bain is usually a week to two weeks. Sometimes you'll hear earlier, but you shouldn't start worrying until at least a week out.
Thanks sparticus, it helps to have a sense of the overall timeframe. Recruiter told me decisions would be made "early next This week", but who knows with MBB, not like they're struggling to find candidates and need to make the process easy.
And to your question - navy blue, and I'm going to bleed a lot of it this weekend, if that clarifies.
I think your blood this weekend might be a bit redder... crimson, perhaps?
I'm going insane because Bain is taking 2+ weeks now. They called me in between to tell me they were "interviewing more candidates" so it could take extra long. I wasn't sure if they were lying and I was actually on a waitlist or something like that. I have another offer that I need to respond to soon, so I feel very anxious... I told Bain about the other offer but I don't want them to get back to me like ON the day I have to respond -- that won't be good for making a decision.
Decisions timeline really vary, lots of factors go into it, so it can be anywhere between same day (literally interviews in morning, decisions communicated after lunch) to weeks later. Really depends on number of people who interviewed, how well you did, etc. Only thing you can do now is be patient, nothing you do now will change the outcome.
I can speak for McKinsey that if you rocked the interview they'll call you in a couple of hours. Some offices do occasionally put people "on hold" if they liked you but need to get approval to give out more offers. If you've been speaking with them, might be good to indicate you are flexible in terms of location as well.
MBB First Round Interview Response Time (Originally Posted: 01/20/2018)
I had my first round interview for an MBB Chicago office yesterday. The recruiter said we should hear back by next Friday the latest, but probably by Wednesday.
I know that is what she said, but don't people say if you passed the first round, you get a phone call the night of? I know this is not a guaranteed no, but does this mean my chances are lower? Anyone have personal experience about hearing back the next week?
Be patient. It usually takes a few days, as we had to decide between candidates at multiple schools. It's actually possible that there are other interviews that need to be conducted first, depending on what day of the week you interviewed.
Now, FINAL round decisions are usually day of. I wouldn't worry about a delay at this stage, especially since the recruiter told you Wednesday-Friday
I interviewed last Friday and still have not heard back - is that unusual? I am worried that the long wait means bad news
From what I understand 1-2 business days is the standard for 1st round if you're on the shortlist (was the case for 2 MBB). I've know people who've heard back after 3-4 with a pass. After that, you're probably dinged. So what they said seems accurate.
It's final rounds that have same-day or 1-day turnaround.
Thanks for the comments. I originally thought the same day response was for first round usually, but now that you guys mention it, I do remember hearing it was more common for final round.
I guess all I can do is wait, fingers crossed.
It will vary based on firm/office/how many people happened to interview that same day. I didn't hear back until the Wednesday after my Friday interview, so don't sweat it at all. No one I interviewed with heard until the next week
How long did it take to hear back?
