MBB vs F500 LDP for 3/4th year out of UG
Wondering what the thoughts are on these two options...currently in a rotational finance program w/ 2 years of experience. I've had great roles and exposure to strategic business problem solving; enough to get me interviews at MBB (for lateral entry level).
The two options are A) MBB consulting or B) rotate into new business development group of F500. My goal is to get into top b-school, planning to work 2 more years. (don't worry about post plans)
On the face of it I have been thinking MBB trumps all to get in but want to hear other opinions. The NBD role will be sweet and I know I can continue performing well & get solid recs. Recently thinking that not competing against IB/consulting ppl and having awesome roles at a good company might be worth more than it seems and as much as MBB.
Talk me into one of them!
You could get into a top b-school from either. Don't base your decision on that- pick whichever you'd prefer and whichever would help more for your post bschool plans.
One thing I will say is top bschools look for career progression- both are instances of career progression, but if you think you can be a rockstar in the LDP program, that might be better than entry level MBB. Then again, it's MBB- as I said, you could get in to a top bschool with either.
Where did you go to school? Target/non-target? If you went to a non-target school, the MBB (assuming it's more prestigious than where you work now) might offset that and be better for bschool. Many variables.
Do you have the MBB offer or are you just speculating?
Business school shouldn't be the goal. Rather, it is a tool to achieve your goals.
Pick the career path that is more closely aligned with your future goals.
I went to a non-target undergrad so need a top business school to open doors. Mbb definitely more prestigious than current firm.
Not 100% sure of post plans and I knew people would want to focus on that. I see it as a way to open doors. Not going to do corp fin or high fin for sure. Corp strategy most is likely my target in an industry I'm passionate about. Possible product management but not thrilled about that. I'd love to do vc and have some contacts what will get me the best shot for vc? MBB is worth a ton there I'd guess but the nbd role is basically interal vc so how do they compare? Can I get the required prestige through a top b school or is mbb better even if there's no direct investment work? Clearly mbb better for corp strat but the nbd falls under corp strat divison so I could sell that side if needed.
