Men's Wearhouse?

I was wondering if the suits and other stuff they had here was worthwhile, and if so, what brands should I be looking into? I was looking to get a few starting out suits in the $500-700 range, and I want suits that will last me a while and I can wear in 10 years, instead of buying a bunch of cheap suits now. Is this a good target price range? Thanks everyone.

At Men's Wearhouse you can get some pretty good suits for sure! Your range is pretty good because they always have sales going on and stuff so for $500-700 you should be able to get a pretty damn good suit... The life of it all depends on how well you take care of it

At MW you can probably get more than 1 suit for that. Or even go to Jos A Bank and get the buy 1 get 2 free

Are Jos A Bank suits any good? I was thinking of going there for that deal.

I recommend buying their suits, but use a personal tailor. Don't waste your money getting alterations there. I do that and love it; saving money and look good.

There are plenty of places to get affordable suits that aren't called the men's warehouse. You won't be wearing a jacket everyday (keep in mind this if for the summer in nyc). You need one nice suit for the summer and you can get away with slacks from random tailors around the city for your day-to-day. No one's going to ding you for it necessarily, but do you want your nickname to be "welfare" for the summer?

My question is, does it really matter? Like do you really notice the difference between a $200 Calvin Klien suit or a $3,000 Armani suit. Yes, there are obvious differences in quality but so what? Are you going to send someone home because that is all they can afford? I personally feel what is more important is if you can carry of the look and still look good. I know I can wear a $100 suit and still look better than the person standing next to me in a $1,000 suit..

But honestly, why does it matter? This is not Fashion Street its Wall Street.

Don't let the game change you, change the game.

First off, this has been discussed a million times on this site. Second, I think the answer is pretty clear; as an SA, it doesn't matter whether you come strolling into work in a $300 suit or a $3,000 suit. Will they send you home? C'mon, you were smart enough to land a SA spot but you're asking this? Yes, yes they will send you home if your suit isn't up to par...

Kidding. NO, of course not! You're an intern, you're not supposed to have tons of money to throw around and to be honest, these days, no one on Wall Street needs to be flaunting their money even if they have it. As long as your clothes look good, which cheaper clothing certainly can, you'll be fine.

I would say you have a much greater chance of being made fun of for walzting in with very expensive clothes than the other way around. Pretty sure the Welfare comment was just a joke...

I bought the cheapest one for $500. The material is good enough and the fit is great. I am pretty happy about it. The best thing is I can customize every single thing: side vent, five buttons, ticket pocket, the color of the cloth inside, the lapel, everything. If you already know the style that you like, bring that blazer from any brand and they can customize it for you at mySuits.

With their 2 for 1 sale, $1200 will get you two Hickey Freemans.

This is a little cheaper than what you're looking for, but I think Joseph Abboud is a great choice on build quality and tailoring. I have never had an Abboud last less than 100 business days on me. Just pay the extra $100 for the US-made suits that have the better manufacturing process rather than the made in india ones.

Also 2nd the Charles Tyrwhitt recs; look for their online coupons.

You can get a higher quality suit at MW if you ask-- most of what they stock is the general, fused shit like CK, "Lauren," and others. Of those suits, Joseph Abboud is the best. However, like I said, if you look/ask, MW has fully canvassed suits available. Right now they have their 'Buy One Get One for 100' deal, which can be a really good deal if you buy the "right" suit. I would say to avoid Jos A. Bank unless you are really on a budget/understand that you are getting what you are paying for.

BDS:
How are generic names like Calvin Klein and Kenneth Cole viewed in terms of suits? I know they have stuff like that at MW.

The generic CK suits you see at Macy's and MW are basic, fused suits. These suits would be good to purchase if you are just starting out, or need a wso/">suit for interviews, etc. These suits are made for occasional use, and their overall quality is generally hit or miss. If you are shopping at this level, entry level suits, it is my personal opinion that Joseph Abboud has the "best" wso/">suit in this range in terms of quality, with CK close behind. If you are shopping on that level though, really you should just go to JC Penny and pick up a few Stafford suits, as these suits are the same (if better) quality as those other CK/KC fused suits, but their prices are even more appropriate.

TL;DR: CK and Kenneth Cole suits are generally viewed as entry level suits that are great for someone buying their first wso/">suit. If you are going to buy them, just buy the separates at Macy's when they inevitably go on "sale."

Ever since the LSO video, I simply cannot think about Kenneth Cole in a positive light.

Jos A Bank has a new line of slimfit suits that are 100% wool, bemberg lining, narrower lapels, double vents, with pick stitching. Anyone who knows anything about suits knows that this is all very good. Wait til they have their sales when you can get one for about ~$400. This is far better than any of the garbage sold at Men’s Warehouse.

I got one of those on sale for $350 it's not bad at all. I don't expect it to hold up for ten years, but it works well and looks sharp. A good buy all around.
