MLB Trade Deadline
How is your team looking? If you're in Chicago and a Cubs fan like me, then today was an absolute gut punch. I'll never forget I actually got to meet Rizzo randomly at a convenience store in AZ for spring training and he was the coolest guy. But those in NYC, how are you feeling? Yankees get two big left handed bats and the Mets now have one of the most dangerous infields in the majors (as long as Lindor hits above .190 and Baez doesn't strike out 250 times). For you California people, Dodgers cock block the Padres by getting Scherzer, who was the probably the best free agent signing ever by the Nats (also looking like RIP to Bauer), Padres still get a decent haul with Adam Frazier and Daniel Hudson, and the one that hurts the most, Giants get Bryant. Braves and White Sox also picked up a few pieces, but Cubs and Nationals fans just watched their teams get completely fucking demolished (ironically they're playing each other tonight, imagine the conversations between players) today. I saw something that over 100 players changed teams over this past week. Who are the biggest winners? Dodgers now basically have a super team, but watch them still only make the wild card and then choke. Are the White Sox now in a position to go on a deep run? Mets or Braves in the NL East? Now that my team is completely out of it, tbh I'm rooting for the Giants or Padres. I want to see Bryant succeed and no one expected them to do well, and so far they've taken a bunch of no names and put up a better record than the Doyers, who are nearing a 300 million dollar payroll. MLB fans, how are you feeling about the rest of the season? Discuss.
Brutal for the Cubs but necessary. Needed to get some pieces before contracts were up.
As a Mets fan, I am very happy with the Baez trade, in which we basically gave up nothing.
Yeah but now it looks like you won't get Rocker for whatever reason. I usually like Steve Cohen as an owner but this is just idiotic
Well, the Mets did not like his medical results and they are probably using it as a negotiating chip. They have until 5pm today to get the deal done. He is not going to get the original offer. I have no idea what will happen.
The stupid thing is is that its such a low risk high reward thing. I mean even if he does need TJ (which I think he will), the worst that happens is the Mets lose a couple million. They literally owe Bobby Bonilla 17 million and Steve Cohen spends 100+ million on ugly paintings. The best that happens is he gets TJ and comes back as the pitcher he was a sophomore and junior, i.e. a complete stud that they only had to shell out a couple million for.
Growing up a Dodgers fan, I’m used to the postseason woes, but I’m just glad we have a front office that is aggressive when it comes to nabbing key players. Hoping the team can put together a nice run through August and September before the playoffs.
I used to like the Dodgers, but now it's just unfair the amount of money they spend. They have the highest payroll in MLB history and are paying some players more than entire teams. Obviously if they have the money they can spend it, but I think it's bad for baseball and that there needs to be a payroll cap of some kind.
