In terms of appearance, Apple Card is pretty cool. In terms of actual perks and benefits, CRS and Amex Platinum.
American Express Platinum is classic. MasterCard has a gold card that looks fucking sick. Very shiny and definitely attention grabbing (more so than AE platinum IMO). The benefits are not worth the cost however I heard, from a utility standpoint chase sapphire and American Express cards are the way to go.
The highest end JP Morgan credit card looks insane- a friend has one. Apparently made of precious metals worth thousands of dollars. Anyone who sees/touches the card (bartenders, waiters, etc) when I’m out with him comments on it.
looks like you need 10 milly in the bank tho lol
Obama is rumored to have one. I guess they make an exception for someone like him.
Using your Apple Watch. Nothing is more sexy, prestigious and powerful than asserting your dominance by swinging your watch across the screen to pay.
in all seriousness probably an AMEX Gold or Plat
Garmin fenix > Apple Watch
ended up getting two new cards. citi double cash and chase freedom unlimited. gonna wait until I start FT and the annual fee actually makes sense for me.
No one thinks credit cards are cool except interns
they're awesome
Think u proved his point
most prestigious credit card is not having a credit card.
Better to be quiet and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
If you don’t use credit cards you’re doing it wrong.
I was joking regarding not having a credit card is a good sign. I agree with your point, at the end it depends on one's spending habits. Initially I planned to write that "the most prestigious credit card is parents' credit card"
Most prestigious is definitely the Centurion card. Honestly, I think it's a huge scam and not worth the time.
If I was in a position to have the centurion I'd certainly see the benefits in the diamond medallion status with Delta alone. Beyond that, not much difference.
JPM Palladium Card. Think it's called the Reserve Card now (not to be confused with the CSR). It's made of palladium and your name / signature is laser etched into it. I think the card is ~$1,000 in materials. Cool heavy feeling (much more than the CSR or Amex etc.)
The default answers here are AMEX platinum or Chase Sapphire Reserve. You're going to pay out the ass for annual fees though, and you can get good benefits like my Fidelity Amex/Visa for free. You also get screwed in CC roulette since the waitress ALWAYS picks the metal card. Yes, I've put a little red sports car on my card. I wouldn't carry a balance on anything, but beware of that too. (I'm thinking a little bumblebee yellow Elise next, BTW)
None. No credit card has prestige. They are created by banks to take money from you at usury rates.
I have a debit card and a AMEX Platnium which is required (in theory) to paid off in full every month and a Good Sams card that gets me 5 cents per gallon rebate on gas.
That's it.
Says the guy paying $695/year for an Amex platinum. Not even close to being worth it
I have found that the Amex platinum is “worth it” if you travel enough and don’t want to go through the pain to of finding other ways to get the benefits. The main things I use:
1) amex FHR ($100 food credit per stay, free breakfast for two): you can get similar, if not the same benefits, by booking through certain travel agents but it doesn’t always work and it isn’t usually as easy (just book online). I use the 20+ times a year
2) airline lounges: centurion lounge, priority pass (not great), or delta lounge (when traveling on a delta flight). If you travel a lot this is great, not as useful if you fly international first/business as the lounge access is included, but for most domestic flights (outside of a few select routes) the first class tickets won’t get you access. I find it nice to get some food and drinks pre travel (again I travel a lot).
3) reimbursing global entry
4) then there are a bunch of random benefits that add up ($15 monthly Uber credits, equinox credits, airline credit, etc)
Not trying to sound like an advertisement for amex as the fees are high (and keep getting higher) but I definitely get use out of the benefits (in a conveinient way).
Amex silver/gold
Amex Black. Case closed.
A1.
I pay $695 per year (or whatever it is, I dont care) for piece of mind... and pay the bill every month.
I could keep going... That is what I pay for. The "black card" has the same perks as the platnium (for what I need) so I never switched over.
Thoughts on chase sapphire reserve?
Not needing to borrow money to fund your expenses is probably the best way to go if you can afford it
for what it’s worth the only people I’ve ever heard talk about credit cards are people not in finance and/or interns or first year analysts. People in the financial industry generally try to have their finances together to a point where they may not need credit cards. But I could be wrong / off on that
What are you talking about? It builds credit (necessary if you want a mortgage unless you are going to pay cash) and you get benefits (almost all cards have points or cash back even those without fees). I will gladly take the cash back and rewards. I’m not borrowing money as I pay off the full amount every month (have it on autopay - you can say I’m borrowing money throughout the month…but I could easily pay for this all with cash). I don’t know why people equate credit cards with lack of financial aptitude or needing money.
