Stats? Where do you want to go?

Why did you not apply to GAtech and Berkeley?

Feb 27, 2018

Low 700s / semi-target state school gpa ~3.6 / 3yrs work exp in finance

Honestly, I wasn't aware of GA Tech and Berkeley's program. Even if I did, I would have only applied to above listed schools.

I prefer Cornell's Baker program. I am aware that networking/job hunt would be difficult because of geographical remoteness, but I believe that if you know your stuff and are presentable, I don't see it as a huge problem. Also, first job upon graduation does significantly effect one's career trajectory. However, wanting to start my own firm in the future, I am more concerned about the experience than the pay and prestige of the firm, so I may not be concerned as much as others on networking.

Surprised you got dinged at USC with those stats. I guess they weigh WE heavier?

Feb 27, 2018

My WE is not directly related RE, so I believe that must have been the case.

Feb 28, 2018

How was the app process at Cornell and how did you show your interest in RE with no prior experience? I'm applying for fall 2019 but don't have prior RE experience. I have 2 years WE in Finance.

App process was simple, statement of purpose & 2 letters of rec. Approx 3wks after submitting my app I received an invitation for an interview.

Some of the deals that I worked on had single assets/mortgages as an underlying asset. So even though my experience wasn't "direct", I would say that I had an enough amount of exposure in RE to show that I have an interest.

Hi everyone!

What about europeans? Is the MSRED at IE a good choice?

Feb 27, 2018

I have no idea on MSRE(D) programs in Europe. Perhaps others could provide some info.

Feb 27, 2018

USC is a February application for a summer start, correct?

Mar 1, 2018

Yes

Mar 1, 2018

Yes, USC's deadline was first week of February this year.

Feb 27, 2018

Happy to help if y'all have any questions. I was accepted to Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, and Clemson in 2015 and have a good friend at Cornell.

Feb 28, 2018

What were your grades, test scores, and work experience before applying? Specifically for Georgetown and Johns Hopkins, what did they focus on? How long was the process?

Grades were shit, I took the GRE not the GMAT and while I can't remember exactly what I got they were essentially good not great. Work experience was solid though and much of the process is just fit - interviews, your essays, your goals, etc.

Any insight into which program is better between the Georgetown and Johns Hopkins? Got into both so want to decide between the two for a part-time program? Is one seen as more prestigious in the DC community?

I'm not tied into DC enough to know, to be honest. There are a number of Georgetown grads on this board though.

What was your GMAT score?

Feb 27, 2018

low 700s

Feb 28, 2018

Do you mind sharing when you applied and how long it took for you to get your acceptances to NYU and Columbia? I applied to both but haven't got a response yet.

Mar 1, 2018

I applied last November. I don't recall the exact date, but the whole process took about 1.5months.

Mar 1, 2018

I received admission from USC MRED earlier this week.

Mar 1, 2018

Congrats!

Mar 1, 2018

Thanks. I haven't made my decision yet. Waiting for one MBA program and one other real estate program.

Mar 1, 2018

If you don't mind, where have you applied?

Mar 1, 2018

Berkeley Haas MBA Because I am interested in developing on west coast, at least for now.

Mar 1, 2018

That's a great program. I wish you the best of luck!

Mar 2, 2018

Hey thanks! The USC didn't mention any scholarship stuff and I am not sure whether it's worth pursuing with full tuition payment. What do you think?

Mar 6, 2018

It depends. Disregarding prestige, financial cost, ROI, network etc...Lot of things I know..
Personally, I believe that the only difference between a MBA and MSRE(D) is exposure/coursework on development. Hence, I think it is best to ask yourself how much value the exposure to development is to you before making any decision.

Also, I don't think it hurts to ask whether you would qualify for any type of scholarship.

Mar 6, 2018

Currently looking at the NYU program. I'd like to learn the investment side of the business as well as the development side, but obviously I can't get both an MSRE and an MSRED. Any advice? I'm working in an investments sales role that isn't really an analyst job (no modeling) and graduated from college this past year.

Same here:
MIT: Ding
USC: accepted
Columbia: accepted
Berkeley: accepted w/ scholarships

Live in SF want to focus on RE finance/ investment
Still trying to decide.

Got into Columbia MSRED, but I also applied to a couple MSF programs. Got waitlisted at MIT's MFin program and got in with a nice scholarship at Vanderbilt MSF. I don't think I can justify paying ~4x the price for Columbia so probably going to Vandy.

From my understanding, some of the MSRE's don't require a GMAT score, and you could get dinged if you submit a 'not-so-great' score since it's another data point to compare you to (from the admissions counselors themselves). MIT requires GMAT I believe.

Accepted to Georgetown and NYU MSRE. 3.2 gpa undergrad ~5 years of related RE experience. Honestly think the essay was a stronger part of the app piecing everything together.

Of note with the NYU program, it's 42 credits. The full Stern MBA is 60 credits, but those additional 18 credits cost a disproportionate amount more (yes I understand it's a different school/faculty/course focus). I looked hard at the NYU/Columbia MBA but the cost is crazy.

Considering applying for the full MBA the next go around and try to transfer in some MSRE courses. Figure at that point I have nothing to lose if I get rejected. Can still come out with a Masters and half the debt.

Also in at Columbia (feels good). Just curious, did anyone that got accepted by Columbia get any scholarship with their offer?

Mar 12, 2018

I would love to hear some feedback regarding scholarships for both NYU and Columbia.

Mar 8, 2018

Any one decides to go to USC here? I am curious how much scholarship does USC typically gives out? Thanks!

Mar 23, 2018

Very little to none. They offer like one 5k scholarship to like 5 people and no other grant options.

Mar 11, 2018

Is the GRE looked down upon? I want to go to USC and I see they accept either the GRE or GMAT.

Mar 12, 2018

I don't think so. Either will be fine. The reason why I took GMAt exam is that I am also applying for MBA.

Mar 12, 2018

Also can U tell me why you want to go to USC?

Mar 18, 2018

For those that were accepted, did you received any financial aid?
