Need Advice - Junior entrepreneur major

Hi all -

Just found this forum. Everybody seams pretty cool. I'm a junior, entrepreneur major at my college. I just got an email from my uncle saying he got me an interview for a summer banking job in New York City. I'm not exactly sure what he does there, but I know he makes a lot of money. his thingy on the email is "Head of healthcare M&A." Wat does that mean? He was pretty brief in the email. It just said that i would be iwth the "private wealth mgmt" division of his bank. wat do they do?

anyway, he told me I would have to fly out this wkd to do the interview BC they're almost done hiring. I have no idea what to wear for this interview and for the summer if im given the job? what type of things to bankers wear? I tried googling it and I think I have an idea what the right look is. do you guys know what brands the guy in the picture is wearing? Thanks.

Ok... a lot to learn and this is my best advice 1) get in touch with your uncle asking exactly which position it is 2) read the vault guide 3) wear a suit - NO SUSPENDERS

you should take your best advice and shove it up your ass

thanks to those who gave me practical advise. i will check out the vault guide. also, i sent an email back to my uncle asking what specific division i'll be interviewing with. ill let you know

i don't know why so many of you call me a troll? i apologize if i sound dumb, i really just dont know much about finance. anyway, im gonna try to learn as much as i can on here/wikipedia before my interview this weekend.

would apreciate additional input - thanks.

Dude, wear suspenders, those are the all important finance guy accessory. You will not even be considered for a job unless your hair is slicked back. You must wear cuff links, even if not a french cuff shirt. Cuff links must at least appear to be high end, no safety pins. Your suit should be shark skin. Make sure to have a cigar showing in your shirt pocket, bankers love cigars. If you are interviewing with wealth management, your resume needs to include your net worth.

Special interests section of your resume must list polo, golf, & glee club.

Shove it up your ass, JC

  1. "I'm a junior, entrepreneur major at my college" lol, you mean you are self educated?
  2. "his thingy on the email is "Head of healthcare M&A." Wat does that mean" it means he is head doctor in the bank, head of healthcare monitoring & erh..ambulance
  3. "It just said that i would be iwth the "private wealth mgmt" division of his bank. wat do they do?" it is the special ops division of the bank, they are mainly involved in the undercover, infiltration work in the private sector, def. the most prestigious group of a bank
  4. "I have no idea what to wear for this interview and for the summer if im given the job? " Jack Bauer

hope it helps.

It seems you are confused by the responses to your post. Allow me to clarify. You are on an IB internet forum full of individuals who spend much of their personal time learning about the industry and how to get interviews/jobs in the various divisions within a firm (most shooting for IBD or S&T). And here you are, some kid who supposedly has an interview coming up, who not only doesn't know the division or job with which you are potentially interviewing for, but you don't even know the most basic concepts pertaining to an industry you supposedly wan to work within.

If I were you, I would spend my time reading the "Vault Guide to Investment Banking," because you don't seem to even have the core understanding that is required to carry on a reasonable conversation in an interview, let a lone actually get an offer. You have your work cut out for you, but, if you put your mind to it I believe you can learn what you need to learn in a short amount of time. I mean, assuming your potential internship is indeed with PWM, then the interviews shouldn't be very difficult as compared to IBD interviews. Good luck buddy.

Sometimes it's very hard to tell whether an OP is truly naive for real or actually a regular contributor to WSO using a new name and trying to cause mischief amongst the hyper touchy and aggressive monkey tribe of WSO and then sitting back and having a good chuckle.
