Need new headphones
Hey all - I broke my Airpods today and need new headphones for my incoming IB job (for calls, skype/training, etc.). I want something with noise canceling so it's either the Airpods Pro or the Bose QC 35. Would it be weird if I take calls with the Bose? Anyone have both? Which should I choose? I listen to mostly rap and podcasts/audiobooks.
I have both. Use AirPod Pros for daily stuff (commuting, working out, music, pod casts) great for a relatively quiet commute especially in NYC. The noise cancelling is good, but not anything to rave about but it makes a difference. Its nice to be able to go back and forth between NC and non-NC.
Bose QC35 is just a whole other experience. I use these when im grinding on work, on flights, and to listen to music. ive used these to commute a handful of times too but you will literally not hear anything around you and in NYC that's not always a good thing.
I listen to a TON of music as well (rap, hip hop, r&b) and both are good for music. but I think if your looking for best bang for buck id go with the QC35, you can use em while you work and quality wise they are def better. I personally wouldn't use them on Skype cus it'd look kind of funny, just go with some regular non- AirPod pros for that., can get em cheap now anyways.
Also if youre looking for a great portable speaker I just picked up the new Bose portable home speaker and it's absolutely amazing.
I was thinking about getting the Bose since I have a problem focusing and they help me a ton (had beats with noise canceling). My AirPods are the first gen and one of the microphones stopped working so I was just gonna sell those. Do you think getting the Bose and just keeping the old AirPods would be good? I just have to check that my other AirPod is using the other mic before each call and the audio quality kinda sucks.
Second the Bose, but the ear pads did wear out after 2 years. I replaced them but for a fairly steep price (like $30-40 IIRC)
same to original comment: both AirPods (for commute, gym, etc.) and Bose QC35’s (for grinding, flights, etc.) is the move.
As to the ear pads falling off: ~$10 replacements from Prime work just as well as the $35 ones direct from Bose
Ditto the QC35. They are the most comfortable headphones I have used.
The two you listed are different ballgames. Pros can't hold a candle to over ears for noise cancelling and general audio quality. Both good products, just different design philosophy. So, whatever floats your boat.
Another option: Sony WH-1000XM3 are unreal for noise cancelling and have a tight tap to play/pause/change volume set up. They make flights and subway rides easy and call quality is solid on both ends. Also very light.
Can confirm. Sony > Bose.
+1 for Sony WH-1000XM3, amazing for travel back when I was on a plane every week..
get the AirPods Pro. they are shockingly good for noise canceling and the audio is great for calls. also I think people who wear over ear headphones on video calls look like narcs so AirPods are better for that too
Bump
don’t settle for the qc35s. the new mic array on the qc 700s is a 8 mic array. it sounds fantastic and is a substantial upgrade over the QC35s for calls. the silver is also more professional. definitely not as portable as AirPods Pro but that would be apples to oranges
I can get the (all new) AirPod pros for $230 the QC for $250 and the 700 for $322. Which would you take?
If you're even in the realm of bose, spend a bit more and go for the bowers and wilkins px7 or the bang and olufsens. As a self-proclaimed audiophile I can hear more with the B&W in music that I haven't heard before
I was going to originally say px7 but it has a subpar mic array for calls
I have the Sony WH-1000XM3 and concur with what's been posted. Get those.
stop being a broke boi and get the bang & olufsen in ear and over ears.

The Sony WH1000XM3 are better. They are best in class.
I’m on the Sony side when it comes to sound and noise cancellation. I’ve had both the Sony’s and the Bose. The Sony’s are not quite as light as the Bose but you wouldn’t be able to tell unless you tried both on right after each other. only downside is the Sony’s mic is not the greatest for calls compared to AirPods. The sound quality will blow you away though if you enjoy a clean, deeper bass sounding headphone.
I’ll probably just get the Sony/Bose and use my regular AirPods for calls. They work it’s just that one of the mics doesn’t work so I always get paranoid that it’s not gonna work.
CANT SPELL RAP WITHOUT CRAP, BROTHER!
