Networking with Alumni from Different Geographic Branch

Say you are trying to work in the Chicago branch of a particular bank, but you only have alumni in the San Francisco or Houston branch. Is it still worth it to reach out to those alumni for the recruiting process, even though if you got the SA role it'd be in the Chicago branch? Or would it be better to just try random analysts or associates in the Chicago branch that might share similar interests(even if they aren't alumni)?
