Networking with a few small investment banks for FT and a lot of them primarily do ECM/DCM work and barely any M&A. If it got an offer, would it be easy to lateral if I don't have any m&a experience?
Could I lateral to M&A at a MM-level shop with no M&A experience or is that too much of a stretch? For reference it seems like 80/20 split with small cap raise deals to larger investment grade issues.

What even do small no names do for DCM or ECM work? Are those just cap raises?
From what I've seen, some cap raises and some participation on larger 1bln+ issues (I assume they get allocated a small piece through relationships?).
If you are working on large deals I would say you are good. Usually, no names do more M&A because there is no capital commitment for the underwriting.
