Not staffed on anything?

Hey guys,

I started just over a month ago at a BB. When I started we (myself and other new joiners) were told they would gradually give us more and more work to avoid being overwhelmed. I was first staffed on a pitch that went down two weeks ago, for which I worked your average IB hours, but since then I haven't done much except a few easy books for meetings. For the past ten days or so I have done absolutely zero work.

Before you tell me things like "enjoy it while it lasts", "work will come soon no worries", etc. let me tell you I completely see where you are coming from, however, do you think it might leave a bad first impression if I am not more proactive? I casually mentioned I have high capacity to my staffer some time ago while we were getting coffee, and my staffing sheets have also reflected this, so not sure what else I can do. The other new-joiners have been way more busy than me in the past few weeks just fyi

Any tips are appreciated!

Dude I am in the same boat and made a post on this not too long ago along with several others. Just chill for now. There's no point in stressing over not having work because you're not going to learn until your under the gun on something real/urgent. All in my opinion though someone more experienced should chime in but I'm relaxing and enjoying my time.

It's your staffer's job to give you work to do.  All you need to do is let them know that you are free to be staffed on things.  If you've let your staffer know that, and mention it occasionally that you're still free to be staffed, then you're golden.  Maybe offer to help some other analysts on stuff, or offer to take on some of your group's regular non-deal/pitch work.  But otherwise don't worry about it.

Funniest

Same here. It was great when working from home cause I just hit the gym, watch Youtube, swipe Hinge and smoke J's. Sometimes I have to hop on a Zoom but otherwise I'm chillin. Back in the office I have to pretend I'm working on stuff / read the FT/WSJ / take frequent trips to the bathroom. We need another COVID wave lmao
