On Campus Recruiting
Hello fellow Rams,
I am going to be a senior next year and will be participating in on campus recruiting. I know that there are two major career fairs each year (Fall/Spring) and I am wondering what is the best way to work these events? I went to one in the fall looking for a summer internship but it was pretty useless since most of the people told me to apply on the website or my resume was just lost in a sea of other peoples' resumes. What is the best approach for securing that FT offer come graduation? Do I have to schmooze the people at the table to stand out and increase my chances or is that just a futile attempt? Also what are some back up plans if OCR doesn't work out? I am looking to hear from those who've been through the process and emerged successful with that FT offer.
the events are useless in 3 ways. 1) No good companies or positions. 2) Very hard to make that really good connection, you'll just have to get lucky, 3) Even HR people don't know that much. You should still go and practice telling people your story.
Your best options are applying via Job Central to all available positions and hope your resume is good enough to get the interviews. You can also get a list of Fordham alums and cold call/email them about informational interviews, which will hopefully lead to a real interview.
Good luck.
To the idea about cold calling/emailing...where can you access the alumni database? Is it just on the website or do I have to go to the career services office.
