Partners Group - Analyst program?

What are any thoughts on Partners Group for someone considering buyside out of school? US headquarters in Denver seems like a strange choice given the firm is a giant in Europe.

I'm headed to an EB with traditionally good exits this summer and was curious about comp and lifestyle at Partners - or would I be better off just doing my two years in New York?

I believe they only pay out 60k base for 1st yr analysts

received an offer from firm for 2019 FT class. was not this low but was not $90k based mentioned by others.

My source was for 2020 FT class-- from what I've heard, they've bumped up salary significantly to attract talent to unconventional location

Base for Denver analysts was 95K this year. Source: buddy from school going there this year

Denver HQ was a stylistic choice by the firm (Swiss-based) to have a mountain campus away from Wall Street. They still have a floor of the Grace Building in Manhattan for their NYC office. There's an interesting article talking about the rationale for the move in PEI, google "Partners Group Denver Campus PEI"

I believe despite the base raise, total comp still comes out to be below street. Bonus just 10-30k?

I considered taking a role at Partners Group recently in Denver. For new analysts you will have a good lifestyle compared to banking analysts and they have promoted to associate as fast as 1.5 years out of the program. You will get decent experience and will work on interesting deals.

That being said, Denver is a quite difficult place to meet people that will expand your network for you to have a successful career. You aren't meeting people like you would in more traditional finance locales.

Also not sure on the analyst level, but at the associate level bonus is 50-50 stock with a vest and cash.

What is the target bonus number?

Around 200 all in with base. Roughly 170 up front all in.

Comp was not a huge issue with the lifestyle trade off compared to other PE shops from my contacts there. It's lower than elsewhere but more sustainable lifestyle than other shops. 50-60 hrs/week vs. 70+/week, less weekend work, insane vacation policies.

The big issue was Denver - did not have a good career view in Denver either at Partners Group or elsewhere.

Note on cost, Denver isn't much cheaper than New York especially if you want to live in Denver and not in Broomfield. You add a car and related expenses vs. New York and housing is still relatively expensive in Denver.

Promotion to Associate in 1.5 years is pretty insane. Especially considering most MFs, UMMs have three year analyst stints. Could explain why the salaries are a bit lower for associates as the progression is faster. Would compare a first year associate salary to year 2/3 analyst. Still might be under market but much much closer
