Path from University of Toronto to Target US College to Wall Street?
I am a high school student (18 y/o) who is about to pursue a non-finance major at the University of Toronto (Computer Science/Math to be precise) this fall.
I've realized in the past months that both my skill set and interests are more pointed towards banking and finance (more specifically IB M&A) rather than CS/Math.
As a result, I am now considering the following four options:
- Transfer to a target school in the US.
- Transfer to a target school in Canada.
- Transfer to a community college in the US and then to a target school.
- The Rotman Commerce degree offered at U of T.
My question is then, which of these options maximize the chances of me landing a job on Wall Street in IB in the shortest amount of time & (if possible) the least amount of money spent.
I understand this is a big goal that might not even be realistic but I'm willing to be patient and work my ass off in the meantime.
If there are more optimal paths that I haven't listed I would greatly appreciate to hear them. Thank you in advance to everyone taking the time to read this and reply to a naïve student.
In the shortest amount of time and cheapest would be to transfer to Queen's or Richard Ivey, work your ass off and make it to the top 10% of the class. Plenty of kids on Wall St. from those two schools.
Rotman is a little overrated and is slowly becoming more of an accounting school than finance school.
Why not do an MBA
