Pathway to Distressed/Special Sits Investing from M&A Background

Do people in the industry currently know others who have come from an M&A background as opposed to the more traditional RX? I would assume it's naturally a more challenging path, but was wondering if this occurs more frequently than expected. Would also love some advice on how to go about looking for opportunities when following this path. Thanks!
