Physical Commodity Trading to Global Macro?
I’m currently a college senior that has accepted a role in the trader development program at a top tier commodities house in ags (one of Cargill/LDC/ADM/Bunge). What type of funds hire from a commodities background? Are my only options commodity focused funds, or will I still get looks from global macro shops? Is ags a good place to be, or should I try to switch to another commodity (energy/metals)?
My guesses would be Ospraie and some Multi-Manager funds.
Not an easy transition, probably need relationships.
Ags is a great place to be. I wouldn’t consider switching until you’ve at least put in a little time. People tend to stay in ags because it’s a small world and is still very relationship driven. With time, you’ll meet people at different companies and doors will start to open up.
