Please Rate Me, Thanks!!

Hi everyone,

Looking for some unfiltered, constructive feedback before applying to B-schools for fall '21. Top choices are Wharton, CBS, Stern, and Duke (if Duke i'd apply for JD/MBA), in that order.

Me:

  • Went to H/W undergrand w/ a 3.3 GPA. Grades never motivated me and I often got poor marks for classes I was uninterested in...oh well.
  • 780 GMAT
  • Worked for 3 years in real estate PE in San Fran at a very well known firm and have performed well. Looking to go to B-school to get out of being pigeonholed in RE. Currently a senior analyst.
  • Super solid letters of rec.
  • Straight, white, male

Thanks in advance everyone!

I rate your trolling skills elementary at best.

Everyone knows its HYP and W - never H/W, smh.

Blank 112,

Obviously your GMAT is stellar and your work experience solid. So you have a shot at all your target programs, however to turn that solid shot into an acceptance you need to:

  1. Convince them you aren't going to blow off classes you don't like this time around. Was there any upward trend to your undergrad grades that would indicate maturity improved your focus? For more on this topic, please see: 5 A’s for Your Low GPA.
  2. A better reason than not getting pigeon holed in RE as a goal. What kind of work do you want to do? PE in what field? Or do you want to do something else entirely? Do you have some larger impact that you would like to make professionally? In other words, your goal not be just about leaving something behind that you don't find terribly fulfilling or attractive as going to something that you believe will be more fulfilling and attractive. Check out Why MBA?
  3. They will want to see some commitments other than work too. You may have it, but just didn't mention in your post, and that's OK.

blank112 Love the killer GMAT. It should make up for your softer undergrad.

Interesting work experience. I'm curious as to where you see yourself going post-MBA. Given the list of potential programs and the JD/MBA mention, there isn't an obvious short-term goal. This will be very important as admissions comittees evaluate your candidacy.
