Please tell me it's deadass wrong to go out with previous boss

I've seen people posting all kinds of stuff on wso so please don't judge me for being an emotional bitch spilling beans out.

I did not directly work under this person (technically his branch is another entity so we didn't even work in the same company), but he was involved in SA recruiting and does oversee the operations of the firm I previously interned.

During a closing dinner, he asked me to come and visit his place whenever I'm back in town after my internship. My brain literally stopped functioning hearing him saying that. Now I got FT job at a different place and was thinking I might say yes to the invitation.

I never joked about office romance along with my guy friends when they discuss how hot some of their coworkers are cause I'm actually falling for one and it's no joke. Even without taking into account the recent Easterbrook incident, going out with someone who could be described as your boss, even just a previous boss, seems like THE worst idea for a banker whose pristine reputation is highly if not most valued. Also the fact that I'm a woman just makes this whole thing look like a quid pro quo scandal.

Seriously I hope someone slap me on the face and tell me not to make any stupid move cause I feel like I'm about to.

There's no lady like lady in IB lmfao. My director wore Louboutin + de la renta all day long and she can still strangle every single man in the office using her muscles acquired from back in the day doing college soccer And I'm asking for disapproval not encouragement
scary ladysoccer skills lol I disapprove of you seeking disapproval from internet strangers and allowing strangers' opinions to sway your decision-making process. You should fuck that guy though.

It seemed to work out OK for MacKenzie Bezos.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Seems like a big reach to claim this guy was your boss. You didn't work directly under him, the division/branch he worked for is another entity. So what if he oversaw recruiting and operations - lots of directors/principals/management types sit on boards or are involved in a variety of firm activities like recruiting, volunteering, staff diversity organizations.

He wasn't in charge of your group/sector during your SA stint, then he was not your boss.

If you're still so concerned that this would be a bad move for you, then you've got your answer.

It isn't even remotely wrong. Hell I hooked up with a subordinate once and dated an admin in my group (but she wasnt my admin). We never officially acknowledged it in the office so people could only speculate, some people jokingly called us Jim and Pam bc of the vibe but not much they could do about it with no proof.

Hooking up with the subordinate was questionable, luckily she was good person and good worker so I didn't have to feel dirty (or like I had a gun to my head) giving her good reviews.

Point is, if I can do that then you can sure as hell date a guy who doesn't work with you.

i watched a bank trader bang the group secretary...eventually married her watched another bank tader bang a sales girl from another group...eventually knocked her up and married her.

it happens plenty...no big deal..go for it

just google it...you're welcome

I’ve never hooked up with anyone even remotely related to work, but here’s my take: just because you can doesn’t mean you should. It’s sad to say but as a woman the consequences are worse whenever I fuck up, so I do I best not to. I am guessing you are attractive and ambitious and a lovely person. You can get any guy you want but it doesn’t mean you should. People talk. Don’t do it!
