Point72 Academy full-time compensation?
Recently got an internship offer from p72 ($8,333 per month + 5k signing bonus) and wondering what is the term for a full-time academy investment analyst offer.
I heard 100k base + 100k bonus but not sure how accurate it is. In return, would love to share my path to l/s equity hedge fund recruiting if anyone is intereted.
is your position in the US?
Yes.
What school do you go to and what's your major?
Sorry can’t disclose that much. Very good school very good major and a good GPA as well. I don’t think they care about major.
Not a problem man. I am really interested in P72. I wonder what you did to prepare for the interview process.
They start out closer to $175ish all-in from what a friend told me who joined the program a few years ago but it scales upward quickly after the first year or two if you prove your competence. He's since left for another HF so I'm not sure if that's still the case but hope it helps.
Definitely helpful, it’s definitely on the lower side of my expectation but I also don’t know market rate haha
Are these straight from undergrad? If so, almost crazy to think somebody would pay close to 200 all-in year 1. Even more crazy to think it’s “lower end” of expectations. Very rarely is anyone of actual value the first 12-18 months with no investing experience.
I think Citadel pays their quant full-time analysts ~$400k IIRC
if you're referring to that thread from a few weeks back that was because the guy leveraged it up from like 250 using some competing offers, 400 is definitely an outlier
OP was mentioning having to do a stock pitch as part of the interview process, I don’t think his offer is on the quant side of P72.
Yes
Hi, thanks for doing this and your time.
I’m currently starting off in Equity Research looking to jump into a L/S Equity Fund in the future. What percentage of analysts at hedge funds would you say come from IBD backgrounds vs ER backgrounds?
This isn't an AMA lmao
I am a student so I have no idea. I see a diversity of background in hedge funds. I think they really care about whether you produce good research. Meaning that if you can think independently and back up your results.

I would say ER is more prevalent at platforms (MLP, citadel, p72 etc) since they teams are sector-focused and value the industry knowledge you bring from ER.
I'm at a L/S fundamental platform. I prefer ER guys/gals. Never did IB so don't value it much.
But some guys who went thru IB and want junior model monkeys will prefer IB. Really depends on PM/Sr analyst.

Any suggestions on how to be considered for the Academy?

bump - any recent numbers for 125 year/2nd in NYC/Stamford during the academy and after being placed?
bump
know someone joining academy FT in NY this year, comp was 125 base + 25 sign-on, with a variable bonus (estimated to be ~50-100k)
Making 225k to learn isn't a bad deal at all...
have also heard academy comp is around 125k base + 125k bonus
