Pre-Recorded Video Interview

Does anyone have any experience with pre-recorded interviews (e.g. BlackRock)? This usually takes the place of the 1st round phone interview and the candidate is usually brought in after this.

I've been asked to complete one, but do not have any experience with it.

1) Do I need to wear a jacket and tie? (I'm assuming yes, since it's better to be safe than sorry)

2) Do we only get one chance at answering the pre-recorded questions? (e.g. What happens if your internet goes out in the middle of answering the last question)? Or do we get the option to review our responses and re-record them?

Thanks in advance!

I have experience with this.

Dress in a suit as normal. Make sure you're in a quiet place and your background is tidy.

The way it works is you are presented with a question and have between 30 seconds - 2 minutes to read it and think about an answer (time varies based on the type of question). Once you are ready, or the time has run out, you can press start or it will automatically start recording. You then give your response and click end when you are done.

I had all my notes in front of me so I had a few seconds to look at them after reading the question and beginning my answer. Just relax and go for it, questions are very basic screening questions and there are only about 10.

Don't listen to anyone, everybody is scared.

I also have experience with this.

Do everything as you would for an in person interview.

Make sure you practice and record yourself beforehand. I didn't get the option to re-record them so don't expect that. The internet going out is a lame excuse.. make sure you secure a location that has good internet connection and is quiet.

Did one last year for Fixed Income (for FT) -- essentially like a standard first-round phone interview, about 30 minutes long, mostly fit- and background-based, with a few straightforward technicals and market-facing questions (for FI where you expect rates to go, etc.) and a couple of pretty simple math questions/brainteasers. The guy literally had a list of questions he was reading off, so I doubt there's that much variation...

If it's a first round where you record your responses (probably via montage), it'll be pretty easy. I only had 3 questions (Each question had like 2/3 parts), just basics, why BlackRock, why this position, or why finance and technology, how can you contribute etc. However, mine was for portfolio analytics.

^You're right if it's just the montage one (had why BlackRock and why FI, up to three minutes (IIRC), one take). Not hard at all. If you pass that (would seem pretty straightforward), then you have the "live" video interview

Wanted to bump this up with a few questions for people who have experienced the video interview.

Did you dress up in a jacket and tie? I think this should still be done granted it's being considered an interview.

Also, were you given a question and only had one chance to respond? (e.g. what if your internet went out in the middle of the last question). Do you have the option to re-record your answer? Please let me know and thanks in advance!
