Profile evaluation/ overall understanding of MFin/ MFA process
Hello everyone
Here is my profile
- 21 year old from a non-target school in India
- Bsc Economics and Finance
GPA : 3.11/4
Courses include Calc III, Intermediate Micro, Macro, statistical theory and advanced econometrics, linear algebra, advanced probability theory, Financial assets and asset management
Experienced in coding with R and STATA.
Passed my CFA Level 1 and FRM level 1 and 2
GMAT 790 ( Q 51 V 47)
No professional experience yet
Internship experience : 1 summer internship with IBM risk management
1 summer internship in oil trading and pricing ( 3rd largest oil corporation in India)
Additionally : Teaching assistant for a finance course and research assistant for a macro economics professor
I'll be applying for the 2020 class.
Reason for my low GPA : It is actually kind of stupid, but for as long as I remember, I have sunk every exam I have ever given regardless of how much I studied for it. However about 5 months ago, I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder ( a sub-type of Panic disorder) and essentially certain pressure situations (in my case academic), sort of forced my mind to shut down. ( it was better known as an 'excuse' in my family lol).
Luckily post diagnosis, the medication has been pretty solid to which I owe my GMAT score and CFA&FRM results, but I was too late to save my GPA.
Given this, I am trying to understand my chances at Mfin/MFA programs and which schools should I aim from. My final goal is to land a job in IBD/trading.
It would be of great help if I can get some direction in which schools to apply to, what considerations I should have while choosing a program as an international student looking for jobs in (probably) the UK/US market and the degree to which the country I choose will influence my future professional plans.
Thanks a lot for your time, advice and criticisms.
