Pulling the Plug - Lateraling to a Competitor and "That Talk"

Hi,

I'd like to know best practices for "that conversation" with your group head when you're going to a competitor and giving notice.

If lateraling to another group / new bank, which is a direct competitor of your current group, do you ever disclose the new banks name? Is the best practice to always just say you're going to another bank?

Curious to hear how your exit interviews & resignation discussion have gone, and of course any horror stories are always welcome.

They don’t care nearly as much as you do. Just make sure your affairs are in order so to speak because you will be escorted out before you have time to empty your desk or clean your hard drive

As I understand, it's standard practice to just say "another bank" and keep that info from your employer so they can't try to poison your offer with the new firm. Obviously they'll find out eventually, and I'm guessing most wouldn't stoop to that level out of spite, but maybe better safe than sorry.

Do not name the company. Respectfully inform them that you're moving on to a competitor and give them standard 2 weeks notice. In 95% of the cases, they will immediately pull your badge and escort you out of the building. So, make sure you're packed.
