PwC "Start" (Diversity) Internship -- What to expect as a sophomore undergrad?

I'll be starting at PwC in one month for their "Start" internship, a program open to all sophomores coming from an underrepresented racial/socioeconomic background. The purpose is to expose younger and "diverse" UGs to all of their service lines (not just advisory). Has anyone had experience with this or a similar program? My main questions/concerns are:

-Is it possible to work overtime
-Should I be expecting a return offer
-How to use networking time effectively to make it clear that I'm solely interested in advisory
-What types of tasks should I expect on a day-to-day basis

I'm excited to get my foot in the door early (especially coming from a non MBB target) but I'm slightly apprehensive because 1) I've found virtually no information about this specific program online and 2) my campus recruiter and interviewers, despite being pleasant people in general, didn't seem to have much in terms of specific information regarding the questions above.

Even if you haven't participated in one of these programs, I'm open to any speculation considering the information I've found so far has been limited.

Lots of hand holding and pictures taken so they can celebrate "diversity" in their attempt to stay on the right side of the government next time one of their major audits blows up in their faces.

Also, if you end up having nothing to offer aside from your diverse being, you can look forward to promotion to manager, regardless of your skill-set at which point you'll hit a glass ceiling. Good news though is that you won't be fired - you'll simply be a manager into eternity until you get the message and leave on your own.

I spent 18 months at a Big 4 firm and one of my seniors was a "diversity" hire - she has been a manager for 8 years and has no other prospects, so she won't quit. They actually just sent her on an international rotation!

Hopefully this isn't your story....

Thanks for the reply, this was kind of what I was perceiving as well considering PwC has been focused on trying to reflect a more inclusive image in recent years. I also hope being stuck at manager isn't my story, but I'd rather focus on the short term in this post. Do you/anyone else know what my odds are of receiving a return offer for another internship next year?

I've worked two summers as a "Start" intern, so I believe I am qualified to answer your question.

1) Yes it is possible to work overtime, I've done it multiple times (time and a half is nice). 2) You're almost guaranteed a return offer unless you're completely incompetent. 3) If you're interested in advisory, start by reaching out to Advisory Associates who were start interns (great resource). Also, make your intentions clear to HR. 4) You will work on a variety of projects depending on the group you're placed in. I've worked closely with partners and marketing leaders for business development purposes, I've also worked with HR enhancing recruitment and retention. You also have the ability to work in the transaction service (m&a advisory) group if you make your intentions clear. One interesting project I worked on had me and a team of interns analyze a client and look at macroeconomic trends affecting them, then we created a presentation for partners highlighting value added services our firm could provide for that client. 5) You will receive your return offer letter about two weeks after your internship and you have about two weeks to accept that offer unless you ask for an extension.
