PwC vs. Deloitte
I am considering two different paths in Management Consulting after completing my undergraduate degree this year. I am looking for advice as to which I should take. I think Deloitte's consulting practice is better but I think PwC's is still good and I would actually have a life during the week. Any opinions?
-
PwC Seattle
-Almost no travel whatsoever a.k.a. much better work life balance
-Not as strong of a consulting practice, yet still a good option for what I want to do
-Not as easy to get your MBA paid for
-Work at one company (Microsoft) rather than many different ones -
Deloitte Seattle
-Close to 100% traveling
-Stronger consulting practice
-Rotational program and MBA assistance program much more set in stone
Thank you!
I'm biased (I work for Deloitte), but I think Deloitte is a no-brainer here.
Yes, traveling will blow but working for only one client isn't going to develop you as well as getting experience with many different clients. There's also a possibility that you can get onto a local project at Deloitte.
Definitely Deloitte. You're 22, you should be worried about building your career over the next 2-5 years - your life-time earnings will be heavily influenced by what you do the next few years. Plus, PwC travels a bunch too, despite what they are telling you now, the chance you travel is pretty high. Lastly, as Strategy& gets absorbed, the average PwC projects has been getting worse, as the "good" PwC projects now go to Strategy&.
I wouldn't go as far as saying Work-life balance doesn't matter in your early 20's (but it certainly does matter MUCH more when you're married with kids)...but the hours aren't even that bad at Deloitte. You won't work weekends, and the likelihood you're doing anything useful mon-thurs in unlikely, even if you're local at PwC(You'll still be tired and working till 7-8pm).
Agree. Deloitte hands down. All the other guys are building their consulting practices from the ground up - Deloitte was the only one smart enough to never get rid of it in the first place.
Advice on offer Deloitte vs PwC (Originally Posted: 01/05/2011)
Guys could you shed some light on which job is the most prospective:
corporate finance team DTT coporate transaction services PwC finance transformation team DTT
it all looks pretty similar, although I gotta decide which way to go. I want to be exposed to a wider set of finance related topics not just reconciling accounts and handle month ends what is my day to day routine in controlling
Do you have any details on what group in Transaction Services? Depending on the firm that can be a catch-all for lots of different advisory groups, some more interesting than others.
.
PwC is always going to be the Best pic. DTT sucks. They are screwed after losing PNC bank as a client.
You need to be more specific on which sub group you can get into, or want to get into. Then decide which one based on that. I wouldnt worry about PWC vs DTT either as all the big 4 are pretty much the same deal
