Quick Question.... Haven't Heard Back From a Contact

Hey Guys,

Quick question for everyone. Here's the backstory.

I recently have been networking to make my move into finance. I managed to get in contact with a friend of a friend who is an associate at a BB, and we were scheduled to meet for in a weeks time (our second meeting in a few months). A day later he informs me that an analyst just gave his notice and that there was an opening in his group (MO Role). He sent me the link to the application on the banks website and told me i'd be able to use his name as a reference on the application, which I did. So we meet as scheduled go over the position etc and he tells me to take a few days to really think about the position and if I really want it, he'll go out of his way to make a real push for me. I REALLY want this position so of course I followed up with a nice e-mail saying thank you etc and outlining how much I'd love the opportunity to have this position and why.

Now, It's been a week and a half since our meeting and roughly a week since I followed up and I've heard nothing, which is very unusual. Overall this guy has been incredible in terms of going out of his way to help me and I always hear back from him within the day. What I'm wondering is if I should be worried at all or what to make of the situation. In short, is there any real reason that this person would stop contacting me?

I know I sound like a 16 year old girl fretting over phone call from a boy, but this job would be HUGE for me. I've been looking and interviewing for a over a year, getting final round interviews but no offers, so I'm a bit on edge.

Thanks for your responses

I'd just assume he is really busy at this point int time to respond to every email.

OR

Your friend is just an associate and only ONE contact at the bank. They could have very easily found another individual that more employees got behind the back off that has substantially more impressive credentials than you.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. There is nothing you can do now. Keep searching, if he calls back he calls back.

I certainly agree about not putting all my eggs in one basket, I've been looking elsewhere as well. This opportunity is just the one with the most legs at the moment, so I'm interested in what's going on. The job posting has only been up for less than two weeks, so I'm not sure they've even interviewed anyone yet.

Lol. Trust me, large firms can easily attract a myriad of talented individuals in less than an hour. They could have interviewed everyone and proceeded to the second round already.

Doesn't mean they have per say but there are also instances when some individuals are so unique that they interview them before everyone else.

Even so, do you think it's best that I follow up again just to ask for a status update?

Absolutely, you should have done that already (I thought you did). Anyways be gracious and ask about the status with a kind closure (eg. have a nice day, etc).
