Quitting Internship for FT Analyst Position
I'm currently doing an internship at a bank but received an offer to join another, better bank full time in early September.
The offer is signed and all but the background check is still underway, and to be honest, I kind of heavily embellished a resume bullet point of my past internship, giving me sleepless nights that I might not pass the background check.
Another problem is that I have to quit my current internship to start the new role. The background check company insisted on calling my current employer before the starting date, so that will happen next week. Also, I must serve my 1-week notice next week.
I don't know what to do and I feel like being left in tatters. I'd be taking a huge risk by quitting my current role (which has an excellent conversion rate) but still having unmet conditions attached to my other offer.
How would you handle the situation? The background check company does not reveal any information on the progress whatsoever. It also took them weeks to process simple emails and basic requests, which I believe just prolonged the whole BC process...

I don’t understand the issue. Background checks are run for all sorts of things. I’m pretty sure they just call hr and confirm you position title and dates. No one from your firm will care. Say it’s because you wanna volunteer in a school or with disabled people. Say it’s for your school job. Say you’re moving and your landlord wants one. You could say you’re getting applying for a visa or foreign paperwork. But unless you’re working at a small firm (under 25 ppl) no one will care. If it’s a big firm like gs or piper it will probably be an automated hotline.
PS. I live in a state where I have the right to request a copy of my background check. They never ask about specific duties or pick apart bullet points. It’s literally title, date, and location. And if they can’t confirm that you actually work there, you just show them a paycheck and it’s good enough.
Thank you for your reply.
This is in line with what one of my previous background check reports says
What is the "embellished bullet point"? I need context in order to give any sort of advice here.
Claiming to have had more responsibility than was the case. However, dates and titles are all accurate.
You’re fine dude, don’t sweat it
The immediate thought process is to panic when we think something too good to be true is happening to us. As others have said, you’ll be absolutely fine (role and length of employment is all they will confirm. Even then, they might only be able to confirm length of employment).
I moved from one huge company to another, the background check company couldnt get through to my old employer, so they literally just asked for a screenshot of my salary going in my bank. Job done.
