Reneging on FT Return offer
I recently accepted my full-time return offer, but I have a superday coming up for a firm I really like. What would happen if I was to receive the offer and renege on my current offer? Would there be any consequences? I just don't want to risk losing both offers at the end of the day

Sign the better offer and but send. Then send the bye email in your next breath. I promise you nobody cares.
Proceed interviewing with firm number two as is without telling anyone. If you get an offer, say you are no longer able to join full time.
If you get the offer reply to this comment and I will direct you on next steps or PM me and I can help you write the email / coach on what to do. Have went thru this a few times now.
Not OP but also in a similar situation. Accepted a return offer a few weeks ago but just got invited for an interview at a firm I am interested in. I have two concerns, one being whether I will be asked by HR if I accepted the offer at the firm I interned for in the summer, and two, both offices are in South/same region, so is there any chance that the firm I did my SA stint at will find out through connections by any chance? Am I overly concerned about this?
I am in a similar spot now, could you share what you would write in your email? It would be much appreciated, thank you!
Ik people who did this. Keep recruiting and if you get a better offer, accept it. Then tell your old firm you won’t be joining back, but don’t tell them your new firm. And dont share with others where you are working.
.
No, you cannot reneg. Signing a return offer letter is akin to a blood oath that cannot be broken. If you do, you will be placed in the Wall Street black book and will never get a job at an investment bank ever again.
I can't tell whether this is sarcastic or serious.

Would this show up in his background check if he reneges before it and they call his old firm ?
..
Renege, tell the IB you can’t be ready for full time due to personal family matters, join the better firm. Just don’t post anything to your LinkedIn or tell anyone outside close friends
