Hi folks. I will start a summer associate internship in the FIG group at a BB firm in June and I need advice regarding good resources to read/practice with before I start. I am quite likely to do more work within the banks/specialty finance vertical. Thanks
M&I has some good resources on FIG valuation and the intricacies of a FIG group. Practice Dividend Discount models, Residual income models, and learn the nuances of equity valuation--you should be good. Congrats!
There is a wiley valuation for FIG companies book. I would check out the financial statements of different types of financial companies as well (banks, insurers, clearing houses, etc).
Hi guys! New to wall street oasis and will be starting summer associate in the FIG group at a BB as well. I will be thankful for FIG resources as I am a career switcher. Thanks a lot in advance!
I just started at a FIG focused bank and I'm trying to learn all the ins and outs of how wealth managers, asset managers, insurance companies, pension funds etc. operate. Would like to learn on a deep level. Any suggestions?
Given how different each sub-sector is within FIG, you really just need to put in the time to do the research. Perhaps start by looking at initiating coverage reports to get a feel for the subsectors, recent research reports to get an idea of key trends/drivers and investor day/earnings presentations for some of the industry leaders to learn about business models, etc.
I just started as a FIG analyst and am beginning to understand why people always say that FIG is completely different. There isn't a training program at my bank and I want to get up to speed as quickly as possible. Does anyone know of any good study materials that go over FIG related topics (ie. standard conversion, how depositories work, etc). Mostly interested in depositories/banks as opposed to the other parts of FIG.
Looking to lateral into the FIG group internally, anyone know of any sources (Online, books etc.) for learning about the industry, modeling etc.? Comments appreciated
Starting as a FIG analyst next year and I'm looking for some books or other resources that might cover financial analysis specifically for firms in the financial institutions sector. Also, anything insurance specific would be great too.

Why do FIG in the first place?
Look into Breaking Into Wall Street which has an entire module devoted to FIG modeling.
damodaran has a great section on FIG in his book/online on his website
