ROSETTA STONE
How legit is this program. I want to take up a new language particularly a romance language such as french. I wonna be able to impress the milfs that ill be hunting this summer. Anyone use it?

I don't have direct experience with these programs but when I spent the summer in China studying international business I meet a large number of students who swore by Rosetta Stone. Ultimately they said being in China helped them the most, but outside of immersing yourself in the culture Rosetta Stone was runner-up, even to their academic courses.
I'm curious if anyone else has any personal experience they can write about. Thanks.
Swamped with work so I'll post a more complete update later,.... For a beginner, Rosetta stone is definitely top notch (I've gone through all three levels of Spanish, even dropped $350 out of pocket for the 3rd one). It won't be enough to just use it on your own, but the things you learn definitely stick and it gives a strong primer into any language.

You say you paid for the third out of pocket. Is there a way to get a hold of 1 and 2 without ponying up over $400 or did work pick up the tab? This is a very broad question but ballpark, how much time would you say you had to put into it? And did you actually have to focus all the time or is it something you can do for an hour or so a night when you're half asleep after a 14 hour day?

Mandarin is impossible to learn on RS, but I go to a public school so that could be why.

are both excellent. I have both, and they're great.
I learned my Spanish by living in Mexico, but the RS program definitely helped me clean up some of my gutter Spanish.
I still reference the French RS I have a couple times a week, and I live in France and use French every day.
Since so much of English is rooted in romance languages, functional Spanish, French, and Italian should be relatively easy to pick up through Rosetta Stone. For languages that aren't romantic or Germanic in etymology, Rosetta Stone would be a difficult way to pick them up.
For example, I had to learn Russian to adopt my sons. No way I could have ever learned it on Rosetta Stone, in my opinion. Our American mouths just can't make some of those sounds (and vice versa). I had to hire a private tutor three or four times a week for several months before I was comfortable in Russian.
I imagine the same could be said for Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.)
If your only motivation for learning French, however, is to fool stupid women into sleeping with you (a completely legitimate motivation, by the way), let me save you the $400 and just point you to this page:

you should buy some of their stock when they IPO with your language program... i hear you get a discount that way
You definitely don't have to pay retail, as there are always pirate copies for sale on eBay. My buddy got all 3 units of Spanish that way, and then raised holy hell when they shipped and he found out they were copies. eBay refunded his money, making the program free. He then copied and freely distributed the program to his friends.
