Scotch and cigars in NYC?
My boss and I have a lot in common. We both have wives (that spend too much money), kids (that make it all worth it), houses in the burbs (that we can barely afford), and importantly- a love for scotch and cigars, (preferably enjoyed at the same time).
It's a goddamn crime that FiDi doesn't have a place that serves scotch and lets you smoke a good cigar. There's the DTA, but I'm not ready to plunk down the fee just yet. (I'm joining next march)
That said- does anyone know of a place anywhere along the 4/5/6 line between FiDi and GCT that serves macallan and lets you enjoy a nice cigar? This is where I want to go after my next closing. Last time, we hung out in the office and I got WAY too drunk for office drunk. Anyhow that's a story for another time.
Scotch and cigars after work- ideal locale? Discuss
.
Let's get together and start one in FiDi, lol. Profit.
out of curiosity whats the cost to join the dta?
Not on the 4/5/6 but Hudson Bar & Books is a spot I like.
Try a rooftop bar (230 fifth for example) they often let you smoke and have scotch. Bring your own cigars and you're all set.
Wall St. Humidor also has renovated into a private club that will likely allow scotch (I haven't been yet so I can't attest to this).
There's the Carnegie Club further north
A bit out of the way but: Merchants - c. 62th & 1st Ave
There's nothing but Nat Sherman's man. http://www.yelp.com/biz/nat-sherman-international-new-york
Ask for Adisa, tell him your man Ali sent you.
Nat Sherman's is pretty damn clutch. Great basement. Not sure what the BYOB policy is though.
While we're on the topic, I've grown to appreciate Velvet NYC as a fun hole-in-the-wall place, but I wouldn't recommend it for this purpose, too casual.
^I personally just bring my flask (which I bought at Nat Sherman's lol)
Thanks gents. Excellent pointers.
I think the dta is about 1,900 buy-in and 800 carry, but you have to be sponsored by a current member in order to apply. Nice thing about dta is that it also gets you use of Harvard/Yale/etc club facilities.
On that rooftop bar...... I'm thinking next wso gathering, sometime this summer, macallan and cohibas. Let's do it
Little far upper east but along the 456...
Lexington Bar and books. Business Attire is a must. Great selection of booze and cigars
I love Bar & Books, especially being an Upper East Side guy. Since my friend became a manager at Merchant's (62nd & 1st Ave), I haven't been there in awhile. Are the waitresses still smoking and eastern european?
try cigar inn on 52nd and 2nd ave
Ive been a big cigar guy for a long time, mostly smoke tatuaje and padron. I was spoiled while a student because there was a cigar shop a few blocks from me with couches and a solid crowd. We brought in our own drinks. There were scotch drinkers like me, port guys, etc. We played cards and chess and watched golf.
Here in the city there used to be some guys that smoked cigars in different hills in central park but thats not allowed anymore. I havent found a casual hangout to drink and smoke since. Let me know if you find a place worth heading to multiple times a week.
Longrow 10 year old is the best single malt I have ever.
Actually headed to Merchant's next wednesday with some former cowrkers
Another vote for London as the greatest city in the world:
