Secured Internship in IBD, How can I prep?
So as the title suggests, I managed to secure an internship in IBD as a summer analyst, however, unlike most interns, I am a third-year student graduating in 2021, not a second-year student, I go to a non-target so I know this is an opportunity that shouldn't be taken lightly.
- How can I prep?
- What Kind of work do interns typically get the do?
- How much training do they get?
- What I can do to try and turn it from an internship into a full-time offer by the end of it
Things I have been doing now is Excel, Some financial modelling and I've begun to tap into Comps, precedent transactions and DCF's that are more practical rather than the stuff I learnt in BIWS 400 questions.
There so much info out there and when you feel like you get the gist you overthink and try to keep looking, so I decided to ask here for a more rounded answer.
I don't know if its nervousness or imposter syndrome kicking but I managed to land the role after applying for a scheme that aims to get POC into IBD roles and I really want to put my next foot forward.
Thank you for any advice,
I hope your all keeping safe.
also, weird question are interns paid weekly?
you won't touch any models
Ok thats ok but do you think its still a good idea to prepare so I know how they operate and what to look for?
Yep! You will have an intern project most likely and that will require some modeling. You will have training but it’s honestly so much easier if you know somewhat what you are doing. I would recommend wsp courses for modeling (haven’t tried wso). Besides that I strongly suggest learning how to utilize functions in excel and overall learn excel. Same with PowerPoint. My bank had a lot of its own shortcuts so a lot of things were easier but knowing how to format things on my own was helpful (not shortcut related). I wish i had spent more time brushing up on excel and PowerPoint. Uhhh besides that there isn’t much you can train I guess. Just keep up on reading and try to develop your curiosity for the industry. It’s much easier to ask questions when you have a generous curiosity.
stop trying so hard, don't need to know anything before starting
I’d appreciate responses as well!
hey man did you take a extra semester/year can i PM you if i did needed some insight
No in the UK, you can apply for graduate schemes the year ur about to graduate and the year after aswell so i tookthe chance apply for the internship then apply next year
