Securities internship Goldman Sachs preparation and tips

Hi all,

I will be interning this summer at GS in their securities division in London. The program is set up with 2 weeks of training and then rotations based on where you can get them.

I am curious to hear about experiences or advice by anyone reading this.

How can I make the most out of this experience? How can I maximize my chances of getting a full-time offer after the internship? How to properly network with all of the different desks and teams? How was your experience, if you have interned at GS securities? What can I do to prepare? I am not sure yet what I want to do, in terms of sales/trading or products...

Disclosure: based on my observations of those from my school who have done well and secured return offers. It seems to be one of three prep type things people seem to do prepping for goldman. One is to do practice models ie mock up a few dcf and famma french models. This is what I have seen with gsam people tbh not gsec but it seems like it would be useful. The second is to write market notes that other people (alum on the street who you are friendly with) critique. This will force you to improve on how you develop and communicate market views. The last thing I have seen is doing coding projects in vba, python, etc. I would do two of these preps depending on what you are best at to keep you ahead of the curve relative to peers and what you most need to improve on. No coding experience with market knowledge should correspond with doing a couple basic projects and writing market notes. Tbh a lot of the people did this in the months leading up to and not the last few weeks. I wouldn't be stressing so much as clearly you are bright to get goldman securities. Congrats on the offer. Enjoy the next couple weeks and the internship itself.
