Alt-E-S-V
Alt + Ctrl + V if you're using the newest version (2007) I think
haha, all trained the same way!
i use the / key instead of alt. its the all the same.
I programmed simple macro and now have this under ctrl+w. Simpler than Alt+E+S+V...
How much macro do you guys use on a regular basis and is it taught during your IBD training?
If you're old enough to remember video recorders, it's just like the button with the round red dot.
Except that the picture doesn't get fuzzy when you play it back for the 153rd time. And you don't have to beat your brother up when he "accidentally" records over your Star Wars. Oh wait...
Quite a lot. I actually have a macro that posts all my comments on ibankingoasis. Come to think of it, pretty much all of my posts on the all nighetr are done by that macro as well - i call it "24/7 processing mode" :)

How useful/necessary is it to be familiar with crating macros using vba though? Obviously you can accomplish more complicated tasks that way but it seems like not many people are very comfortable with it.
it's extremely useful but not crucial (for most everyday work). If it's simple enough you can just record it.
However, if you need a certain spreadsheet to relink to different documents, do some v/h-lookup madness, create a new sheet for the day, access the bloomberg for some new prices, combine them, compare them, mark it against yesterday's numbers, create and update a mothly average, and then take a shit on your face, learn VBA.
I'd only suggest writing a macro you need to do something that would otherwise be extremely tedious. I know how to write them, but I almost never do.
I'm pretty set with the shortcuts from native Excel and from DealMaven.
There's always an engineer analyst or intern around when (once a year) anyone in the team needs some vba done.
I asked about vba because I'd likely be that "engineer analyst or intern" and I'm pretty comfortable writing a moderately complex macro. Is this something that's particularly appealing to employers? What's the best way to sell this skill if it is valuable?
For IBD it won't make you stand out in the application process, just have it on your CV alongside MS office.
It will get you noticed if you can build some relatively complex macros that everyone will use and save time with though (you'll have to search for those opportunities though, and have the time to build them).
