So, in light of today's drop...
... I think it is a good time to ask. If there was a recession (unlikely) how vulnerable are analysts? How likely is for an analyst to get fired if the market goes south (in general)? Basically, my question is of very general nature. Are analysts usually vulnerable, or are firms just going to reduce hiring?
I have no real experience, but I remember that Accidental Investment Banker covered this subject. You might check it out if you are curious enough.
A reduction in hiring at the analyst level but slashes at the senior level. Find the Accidental Investment Banker discussion.
Most of us are neophyte "financial" analysts but my guess is that specific sector and industry level analysts will feel the buzz saw the most...
Heard over the box that an incorrectly-input option on Chinese equities was a major cause of today's selloff. Many desks automated-response trades were a result of too many zeros on this particular option. Being vague on purpose; we'll see what the news says tomorrow.
Ja, no way! Probably was a sloppy intern :-0
....if u are an incoming analyst on a mortgage desk i might be a bit worried...as of today ur job isnt at risk but things are getting pretty messy in sub-prime...
what did everyone do with their positions in personal accounts today?
I lost a shitload in my mutual funds. Nothing I can do but watch. Of course, I'm not upset after the huge run of goodluck I've had over the past year.
I lost about 4%, and another 4% in an account I manage for a family member (equities/ETFs). Pretty shitty day, but I guess it could've been worse.
P.S. I know someone who lost $25k on Dow futures.
i cashed out everything at 9:35. all of my investments were in emerging markets and metals so i'm going to remain happy with my decision regardless of whatever talk there is of all of this being a computer error in the chinese markets. i returned over 20% since feb 06... i would not say that is a bad year at all.
time to watch things closely again for the next few weeks.
I lost about 8 out of 120 K in a virtual stock portfolio (Barron's Challenge). Its a pretty bad feeling when you see reds across the board.
I got hit, but I don't think it's that bad. When I heard the news, I thought it would've been much worse. Exited all my specy positions like resources and Chinese funds hahaha
I haven't checked today, but I had my entire portfolio long Radioshack calls. Anyone know how I did?
went down 2.5% pa
