Sponsors for Educational Opportunities (SEO)

I was accepted into SEO. I have seen a lot of threads on it, but honestly none have been any real help. Besides the interview and technical training, how does the program help you secure a role.

1). I have seen that there is potentially a resume stack that gets sent to banks. (how would this work internally)

2). I have also seen that if you apply with partner firms, you can not also apply with them separately

3). What is the timeline of SEO recruitment? Is it the same?

I did it. First off, only 40-60% of the original group actually get an internship. Only 80% of those actually get a return offer. So being in SEO will not guarantee you an internship let alone offer.

Basically, they give you training to help prep for interviews and then they send your resume as part of a large book to all their partner firms which, at this point, are all major banks on the street. The banks use SEO as their go-to for diversity recruiting, and source most of their diversity candidates from the program.

If you get an internship through them then you move onto the next phase where they give you internship training. Modeling/professional development basically.

So:

  1. They take your resume and send it to their partners. The partners will reach out to you if they want you, or you can try recruiting on your own.

  2. See above. I applied through both SEO (sometimes they post exclusive application portals on their website) and the regular recruiting process for the same bank. I got in through the former method.

  3. Starts around January before summer internship recruiting. You hopefully get an intern offer. Then you sit around doing nothing until January before the summer of your internship where they give you a coach and more training. Then you start your internship.

What summer are you recruiting for? I recall that the SEO resume book was not sent out until about June/July/August for my class. If you are trying to get an internship for 2021 then it is a little late but I doubt they would accept you if they already sent out the book for your class.
