S&T Summer to MBB Consulting

I'm a junior at a target school with a 3.8 with a highly technical degree (engineering/CS). As of now, I'm committed to S&T at a mid-BB (BAML, Barclays, Citi, CS). I am pretty sure I'll end up on a good desk given my skillset and be sought after as an intern despite reduced headcount in S&T.

Although I feel lucky to have a job many would love, I do not think the markets is where I want to be for the rest of my life, which I hear is the case in the markets. In addition, I generally like working on diverse projects, so I do not think S&T is where I want to be.

My previous experiences include SWE sophomore year and PM at a small startup that was acquired freshman year. I think my record is solid with diverse, brand name internships, school, and GPA (I hope). I wanted to know: how do consulting recruiters view S&T? I've noticed a couple alumni make the switch, but was curious to know what the perception is overall, and perhaps how I should sell the experience when interviews arrive.

Thanks in advance.

Hey! I didn't switch to MBB, but switched to another consulting firm. Overall, it's not impossible, but more about how you frame your story and why you want to switch into consulting. That and make sure you know how to case. I would focus on case prep because that's the most important part. As for framing, I mentioned a lot of the client facing aspects of S&T, the analytical part of each desk, and the fast paced environment. I would focus more on the part of S&T where you have exposure to a lot of people at different levels. Feel free to pm me with any other questions!

Soccer125 gave good input. I worked with a bunch of people with S&T internships before going MBB FT so it is not uncommon. Your background/ story seems like a good fit for consulting. I would highlight the client aspect, fast pace and analytical rigor as similarities, and add something along the lines of "seeing a variety of industries from the inside" and "working on broader business problems" as a reason to want to work in consulting.

Make sure your story is compelling and sensible, and crush the cases - shouldn't be a major issue.
