Traders love those Stainless Steel Rolex Submariners. Nobody really uses them for diving these days as they their functionality was only advanced in the late 50s through the 80s until the electronic watches came out that did all the calculations for the diver. It's actually a cliche now that every junior level trader gets one.

This is a Rouchefoucauld. The thinnest water-resistant watch in the world. Singularly unique, sculptured in design, hand-crafted in Switzerland, and water resistant to three atmospheres. This is the sports watch of the '80s. Six thousand, nine hundred and fifty five dollars retail! it tells time simultaneously in Monte Carlo, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Rome, and Gstaad.

What are your thoughts on the guys that actually go with the rubber bands instead of the stainless steel/white gold? I'm sure they aren't wearing an $80 casio - what types of watches are these guys wearing?

Those guys are most likely wearing the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Off Shore or the Hublot Big Bang watch. About about 12 to about 50k depending on metal and complication++

My perception is that finance guys fall into two camps: those that outwardly express their insecurities or wealth through material possessions (i.e. nice watch, car, etc.) and those that really could give a fck about those things.

Its been my experience that a lot of the guys with the real money generally fall into the latter category (i.e. HF/PE guys who dress like slobs, wear Timex rubber band watches, etc.)

Agreed. James Simons dresses like a dentist.
