Starting RIA - license and sponsorship
Hello,
If I started an RIA would I then be able to sponsor myself for licenses. If so would there need to be a waiting period? Thanks.

I am assuming you mean the series 7. In that case you can't but you still can provide investment advice for comp with a series 65 and meeting your states requirements. Some companies will sponsor you to take your series 7 on hire however rare.
Yes, I was thinking primarily the series 7. However I was wondering about other licenses as well. Would the same go for employees. Is there certain registration needed for an ability to \ be able to sponsor for licenses. With the 65 are you saying transaction commission and not just fee based.
With the 65 you would just be able to offer fee based but not commission. I believe you would have to be sponsored by a bd to be able to sit for the 7. They have to open a window for you.
You don't need to start an RIA to get the 65, you don't need sponsorship at all. The 7 is a different story. Also, neither of these is very helpful if your goal is landing a job, as any role that requires FINRA licenses expects you to obtain them within a reasonable timeframe upon hiring you
Would it still not be helpful to already have them?
