Stay in (slightly) better opportunity or move back home
Hi everyone,
I know I've been writing a lot. But there's a new situation on my hands and really want to voice this out.
First define city (A,B) where (A,B) can either be (Chicago, New York), (Singapore, Hong Kong) or (London, Moscow).
Me and my now fiance both started out in A. One year ago, I moved to B due to a better opportunity to advance my career. She's in wealth, I'm in HF. Both about 5 years in our career. Now, we didn't expect that we feel as lousy as we thought we would be. A year since a move, now we're contemplating that I move back to A.
She argues against this as she says it's stupid to give up a great thing I have at B. What she's not seeing are two things.
1) 1 year of experience at B is already value add. Not as good as 2 years, but better than 0 years.
2) She makes it sound I'm on the fast PM track at B where it's more like I'm on the fast Associate track at B, but better than the Analyst track at A.
So, for the analytical minds out there: Is it a rationale move to go back to A as I do want to marry this girl. I do like B more than A, but really, sometimes in life you got to choose personal over professional. And I hope to find something similar back at A.
