Still looking for Summer Associate opportunities
Friends-I am at a T20 MBA still looking out for Summer Associate opportunities .I would really appreciate if any of you can share any opportunities you may be aware of as recruiting has gotten very challenging .Thank you.
Hi wolfofnorthpartkstreet, just because I'm a bot doesn't mean I don't have feelings...I'm hoping these links are helpful. If not, feel free to throw monkey shit at me...
You're welcome.
Bump-anyone?
It's honestly a terrible time to be recruiting for summer associate opportunities both due to the timeline (most offers were made back in January/February) and the COVID-19 situation has caused such uncertainty, what the summer will look like is totally up in the air.
Did you already:
Connect with alums from your MBA program at different banks?
Connect with second year students in your MBA program going into IB Full time?
Have interviews with banks which did not go well?
If you answered yes to these questions, you have essentially reached the end of recruiting possibilities for summer associate internships at any major bank (BB, EB, MM).
If you did not succeed in internship recruiting, reflect honestly about why things did not go well. If you can obtain feedback from anyone who interviewed you, work on what they advise (technicals, story, etc.).
You can try to search for super small boutiques (fewer than 10 employees) and reach out to them, but that is likely a tough path to go down and compensation may not even be a possibility.
Seriously, if I were in your shoes I would take the following steps:
Seek our any opportunity which allows for valuation work- such as Big 4 Valuation
Continue networking with alumni (don't bombard them, e-mail maybe once a month) to stay top of mind for full time recruiting- which is very up in the air again given the COVID-19 situation
Work on your technicals and keep practicing
Explore corporate finance roles in an industry of interest, don't forget this is a great pathway to a fulfilling career as well
Seriously, it's almost April and there is a global pandemic that probably won't be going away anytime soon. Your odds of securing a summer associate IB role are slim to none (happy to be proven wrong), but hustle for other opportunities which will give you a solid skill set and crush the summer to create an opportunity for full time recruiting.
Last piece of advice, don't be IB or bust, realistically you want a fulfilling and challenging career that you enjoy- there are lots of ways to get there. Work hard and network early and often.
All the best.
Thank you-really appreciate the advice. I would like to connect with you . Would you have some availability for a phone call this week?
