Stories of People Going From HF To VC? -- How Hard Is It?
Haven't seen any posts on this forum tied to this. I imagine the caliber of talent at most HF's are certainly bright enough to go into VC. But How feasible is the jump?
Any stories tied to this topic?
If you work at a Tiger Cub - super easy. Just go to the VC arm of your fund. Tiger Global, Coatue etc. If not - you can probably still get hired at a decent VC shop, esp. if you're a tech equity analyst/anything tangentially related.
If you don't work at a Tiger Cub, and you're at a MM or no-name shop - I would say extremely difficult cuz the skillset overlap is literally alllmostt zero. Maybe P72 you can shift into P72 Ventures. I have a buddy who did that actually from Tech L/S at one of the pods.
I've seen it happen. HF people started a VC fund investing in a very nascent industry.
such as?
Think really early stage biotech.
I was also curious about this. I would think intuitively that the role in a HF of scraping through infinite companies would give u a natural sense for business economics and analysis.
But why
Because at a certain point, when you are making hundreds of thousands, you care more about the actual day-to-day work over compensation maximization. Also, if you are passionate about VC moreso than HF, you will be less likely to burnout. Money is alot of it, but definitely not all..
