Surprise - you're now in operations: Goldman's Class of 2008

This could be old news, but I was talking with my friend last night who is in S&T at Goldman working on their derivatives desk, and he mentioned that half of the IBD incoming class was reassigned to work in operations. Ouch!

He currently has a "legal analyst" working for him just looking up legal documents and drafting memos. The poor kid thought he was going to be working in Lev Fin.

Can anyone else confirm/deny that this happened? Any thoughts on whether SA's or next summer's full-time class will be similarly shafted?
