Switcheroo-Trying to get into HF, AM or Real Estate Inv

2010 Grad. Non-target. 3.6 . No Fin experience other than a VC internship in which I did nothing Fin related. Currently employed in totally non-related field, but with a lot of responsibility. Can't afford FT MBA(not even PT at NYU). Looking to get into HF, AM or Real Estate Inv....I know I know, I need to narrow it down.

*puts on blindfold and puffs cigarette* okay guys/gals fire away

any friends or family in finance? cuz networking like crazy is the only thing i can think of if a mba isn't doable. also, and someone with more knowledge of the CFA can correct me if im wrong about this, but passing level 1 to show you're financially competent might help. could be too much of a time suck and not enough ROI though.

Remember, once you're inside you're on your own. Oh, you mean I can't count on you? No. Good!

Getting into a HF or RE(Heating up again) will be very very difficult... there is soo much talent in the market right now even 2yr bankers will have a tough time. Guys can trade up (exp. wise) at a low marginal cost if any

On that note, there are alot of non-traditional buyside guys on the street. Be aggressive, exhaust your network/have an opinion on markets and be in a position to discuss ideas to show that you are passionate and know how to think about investing...produce write ups and send them out with introductory emails, show them that you are hungry and a winner

Thanks guys, I've been looking into the CFA program and I believe that to be my best option. Baruch is affordable as far as MBAs go, but from what I've read, an MBA is a waste if you want to work for a HF. Plus I would have to do PT which would be slow. And honestly, right now I would be happy with any type of Analytical role in Finance right now
